Dark Night of the Ego
When your Soul says 'hello', it's often disturbing
And comes with a message you may find perturbing...
'I'm here to tell you that you're not really you,
and everything you thought you were just isn't true'
'But what do you mean?' says the Ego with dread...
'I know who I am!' to the voice in my head
'You're so full of shit, leave me alone,
I'm NOT giving up on everything I've known'
'Then let's play a game of Truth and Dare'
says the Soul to the Ego... 'and see how you fare'
'So tell me, truly, who do you think you are?
Your name? your job? your flashy sports car?
Or where in your body is the part you call 'me'?
Your head? your finger? your heart? your knee?'
'Don't be so stupid! I'm all of those things'
I YELL, as inside me an alarm bell rings
And I start to see that they're not really me
Just a bunch of stuff called 'personality'
I concede I'm not happy, though I've really tried
But nothing makes sense in the world outside
And here in my mind I've got things sorted
Even if I know they're a little distorted
'So if that's not me, then how do I find...
...and who am I talking to inside my mind?
I must be nuts, crazy, insane!'
I tell myself as I feel the pain...
Oh yes! dear one, you must furlough your pride
And know that you're in for a hell of a ride!
It's bumpy for sure, and you have to let go
But trust that you're MORE, and dive into the flow...
Take a leap of faith into the vast unknown
It's scary as hell out of your conform zone
And seeing the truth is no small feat
But have courage brave soul, the victory is sweet
